BEAM ME UP, SAID SCOTTY by Suzanne Perry In memory of my dear, friend. Scott Read
Beam me up please, said Scotty.
Lord, I think I've had enough.
River said it's time to go,
'Cause I've been feeling pretty rough.
The river that I speak of,
Is the river that I love.
It's a pretty piece of Pemi,
I watch from just above.
When my battle began years ago
When Fear reared large and lusty.
Chemo sweated fear, inmorn's wee hours,
My sweet, sleeping wife beside me.
The time left to the two of us,
Fear was threatening to devour.
I vowed I would deny it that;
I would find it in my power.
A place to be in peace, I thought.
Sweet silence, almost deafening,
And as I swung, that river spoke,
As we brought Fear its reckoning.
River helped me to see that I could,
Live, the life I was fighting for.
The experience, was so bittersweet,
I Always wanted just a little more.
For, saying good bye is not easy,
I have loved my family so.
Yet, a flight to heaven on this Friday
That's Good; I'd be free of every woe.
River has warned me to pack with care,
The carry-on bag I have found,
Must fit overhead or 'neath my seat,
For Heaven's Shuttle to leave the ground.
I pack with some trepidation,
So worried I'll not get it done.
The outcome is not as expected.
All anger and grudges I discarded.
And my regrets were ever so few,
Though, I worried how I'd ever fit
All the love I've felt for all of you.
My love of early morning, coffee,
Hot tubs, fresh snow, Elvis, and golf,
A good dine, a fine wine with chocolate soufle
Son Jason, Orange-men wins and golf.
Love, every touchdown the Patriots made,
Love, travel'in the world with my Queen,
Love, laughing with Shane, It was all good.
'Specially the sun on my face for eighteen.
I look in the bag, almost empty,
Turns out there's always room for more love.
So my pencil case suitcase is ready,
I just heard my Mom call from above.
I was frightened and sure you were too,
Now, what's this ruckus about on this craft,
It's Maureen doing her touchdown dance,
"Let's go Scott"! she says at last.
"Remember, they should listen in silence
For your voice might be brought on the breeze,
Your kisses could be sunshine caressing."
Beam me up Lord, smiled Scott. Lord; ready now, please...
