Goodbye Huston
Tonight's the last night I spend at my apartment on Huston st. before moving on to bigger and better things.
But it's treated me well as my first place after school, and was the place where many of my dreams came true.
Farewell Huston st.

BEAM ME UP, SAID SCOTTY
BEAM ME UP, SAID SCOTTY by Suzanne Perry In memory of my dear, friend. Scott Read
Beam me up please, said Scotty.
Lord, I think I've had enough.
River said it's time to go,
'Cause I've been feeling pretty rough.
The river that I speak of,
Is the river that I love.
It's a pretty piece of Pemi,
I watch from just above.
When my battle began years ago
When Fear reared large and lusty.
Chemo sweated fear, inmorn's wee hours,
My sweet, sleeping wife beside me.
The time left to the two of us,
Fear was threatening to devour.
I vowed I would deny it that;
I would find it in my power.
A place to be in peace, I thought.
Sweet silence, almost deafening,
And as I swung, that river spoke,
As we brought Fear its reckoning.
River helped me to see that I could,
Live, the life I was fighting for.
The experience, was so bittersweet,
I Always wanted just a little more.
For, saying good bye is not easy,
I have loved my family so.
Yet, a flight to heaven on this Friday
That's Good; I'd be free of every woe.
River has warned me to pack with care,
The carry-on bag I have found,
Must fit overhead or 'neath my seat,
For Heaven's Shuttle to leave the ground.
I pack with some trepidation,
So worried I'll not get it done.
The outcome is not as expected.
All anger and grudges I discarded.
And my regrets were ever so few,
Though, I worried how I'd ever fit
All the love I've felt for all of you.
My love of early morning, coffee,
Hot tubs, fresh snow, Elvis, and golf,
A good dine, a fine wine with chocolate soufle
Son Jason, Orange-men wins and golf.
Love, every touchdown the Patriots made,
Love, travel'in the world with my Queen,
Love, laughing with Shane, It was all good.
'Specially the sun on my face for eighteen.
I look in the bag, almost empty,
Turns out there's always room for more love.
So my pencil case suitcase is ready,
I just heard my Mom call from above.
I was frightened and sure you were too,
Now, what's this ruckus about on this craft,
It's Maureen doing her touchdown dance,
"Let's go Scott"! she says at last.
"Remember, they should listen in silence
For your voice might be brought on the breeze,
Your kisses could be sunshine caressing."
Beam me up Lord, smiled Scott. Lord; ready now, please...

A pretty big step in my life was taken today... Let's see where this takes me.

Times Like These
I'm sitting at the "Presidential" car wash on Magnolia waiting for my Mazda3. Something I've done many times before, but this time is different... This is the last time the 3 and I will be here together. In a couple hours I'll be picking up my new car and dropping my sturdy friend off at Carmax, where hopefully she'll find a good home.
We've been through a lot together, this car and I... I still remember that inaugural drive off from the dealership with my very first new car: hanging with Kristie W. blaring tunes out of the sound system.

Day she got her Cali Plates
This girls been with me through good times and bad, from a tough first year at grad school to many great Santa Barbara trips and that first drive-on to backstage at Disneyland.

Kenosha, WI on route to San Fran...
She had a little trouble with the snow and cold the night before
A little less than 2 years ago we arrived in LA together ready to start real life. We've actually been cross country 3 times, to San Fran and back before coming out here.

Wyoming
She's been a great car. Here's hoping her next owner is good to her, and cheers to our ongoing adventures.

Arrival in California
Thanks for the journey old friend. Every time I see a black 3 drive by, I'll wave hello.

Damn! 2 Years already...
LA has been good to me these past two years and some things I never would have imagined have happened, including my brother and Jake moving out here... and possibly Josh sometime in the near future as well. I've developed a social network out here that is a really important part of my life -- great friends and family to share things with. Yesterday for Easter a bunch of us had brunch at my place before heading down the road to Universal Studios Hollywood for the afternoon. A very good day.
I also went to my first Dodgers game last week and had a blast. (They, upon winning, played good ol' Randy Newman's I Love LA... perfectly fitting :-)
So here's to the next to years in LA LA LAnd... if they're anything like the first it'll be a blast!
PS> I realize I pretty much abandoned this blog for damn near 6 months... so not sure how many of you are still out there. I'll try to get back in the habit of posting important / cool random things more often.

Milestones
LDI is back in Vegas this weekend (I'll be there Friday-Saturday).
But more importantly.... it means I can get a new phone!
It was two years ago during LDI that I lost my original iPhone (in a minor bit of drunkeness) and through a bizarre set of circumstances ended up with a free iPhone 3.
The question that remains.... get an iPhone 4 now? Or, wait for a Verizon iPhone? hmmm.

Reviewable
Tomorrow I'll be catching my first public viewing of World of Color at Disney California Adventure.
I'll review it, but what I'm more interested in is the meal at DCA's Wine Country Trattoria that I'll be having as part of a WOC dinner package.
**I wonder how long I'd have to work for the mouse to equal what they've gotten out of me since childhood??? If you account for inflation and TVM its probably an impossible figure.

Anybody out there have any experience setting up Network Attached Storage?
I just got a NAS RAID array and though my computers can all see it on the network, when I try to access it the "pathway cannot be found". Occasionally the computers will be able to see the contents of the drive briefly before it disappears again, but even then it goes extremely slowly. Connecting the drive directly to one my computers' ethernet port works just fine.
So I think I've tracked it down to a router problem... either because theres some kind of firewall/setting/security thing I can't track down or because I bought the cheapest POS Belkin I could find when I moved here.
OYE.
UPDATE: VICTORY! Added an additional (unnecessary) 10/100 switch between the Belkin Router and my NAS and, like magic, it works. Not sure why or how. But that's ok.
